Collaborative and transparent ocean science. For the oceans. For us.
I’m currently volunteering as a Principal Investigator in Queensland, Australia for the ‘Our Ocean in Covid-19’ project facilitated by the eOceans app.
During 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic sent the world into lockdown. This meant there were far fewer (or zero) people using the ocean in their region for tourism, recreation or commercial purposes. So how does reduced human interaction with the ocean affect the marine environment? That’s what this project is trying to find out!
eOceans is a mobile phone application which can be used by researchers and citizen scientists alike to record observations of what they see in ocean environments.
How does it work?
Instructions on how to use the app can be found here. Alternatively, watch the short video below!
What can YOU do?
Become an ocean observer! You can download the app here and join the conversation on facebook.
